Natural Dyeing

Whether RUMAH chose Bali or Bali chose us remains a mystery. However, our encounter with skilled artisans, guardians of the ancient art of natural dyeing, unveiled the perfect setting to bring our project to life. Natural dyeing, deeply rooted in this island, embodies a millennia-old tradition. With reverence and humility, we chose to collaborate with these master craftsmen. The result is a symbiosis of culture and creativity that defines the soul of our products.

Using natural ingredients, they extract colors from plants: black from umbrella tree leaves, yellow from mango leaves, brown from mahogany leaves, blue and indigo from Indigofera, and red from sappan wood. By expertly combining these natural sources, a diverse palette of vibrant colors is achieved. This artisanal process, while more time-intensive than conventional dyeing, reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship, where each piece is carefully crafted with patience and respect for nature.

Today, RUMAH unveils its new collection, the result of meticulous study, countless trials, and unwavering patience. Featuring unique tie-dye tones and patterns that reflect RUMAH’s essence, the collection showcases the natural imprints left by plants on each fabric—our signature style.

Natural dyeing is a captivating process, full of surprises, where no two pieces are ever identical. Wearing RUMAH means wearing something truly one-of-a-kind, a creation that can never be exactly reproduced. For us, this is the true definition of luxury.
